Communication Between School and Parents / Caregivers
| Communication Between School and Parents / Caregivers | |
|
Communication between school and home is important. A newsletter, the students’ school diary, parent-teacher interviews, parent information evenings and Governing Council meetings are ways parents/caregivers can receive information about their children's education. |
|
| Parent Information Nights | |
| New families are invited to the school to learn about education in South Australia, how the school operates, to meet people from their own and different communities and to meet their child’s teacher(s). A second information evening is held at the Advanced level in preparation for students' transition to high school or further education. For senior students, parents / caregivers are provided with information about the South Australian Certificate of Education and the units students can gain whilst studying at Adelaide Secondary School of English. | |
| School Diary | |
| This is used to record homework set each day. The diary should be signed by parents/caregivers each weekend. Teachers also use the diary to inform parents of any concerns. The diary should be used to explain absences or request early dismissal for appointments and convey any other information. Notes can be written in languages other than English. | |
| Parent - Teacher Interviews | |
| Parent teacher interviews are held regularly to provide information about students progress. Interpreters are available if requested. Additional interviews can be held if requested by teachers or parents / caregivers. | |
| Governing Council | |
| The Governing Council works closely with the Principal to govern the school. It usually meets once per term. All parents and caregivers are encouraged to nominate for the Governing Council. Interpreters are available for meetings if requested. Students and staff also have representatives on the Governing Council. The Governing Council also has a number of invited members who represent associations and agencies that work with the school to provide important local community links and services. | |
